It is a profound matter. Our competition is often with ourselves. One side of our personality keeps trying to be good, while the other side keeps inciting us to do evil. This competition, or rather, war, continues. Those who have self-control win the war and become good and virtuous, and those who lose the war with themselves get involved in evil.
To win the war with ourselves, self-control, belief in truth and honesty, and trust and confidence are essential.
